Girl of the Blogosphere: Carrie

Name: Carrie

City: Southern California
Occupation: Executive Recruiter

Who is your fashion inspiration?
I wouldn't say I have any one person because my personal style varies depending on what mood I'm in. I'm a 70's child at heart (hence this free bird) so I look to that era for inspiration. From the past? The women of Three's Company + Stevie Nicks. My present day favorite boho girl is Jenny Lopez. She's been my favorite Free People model for the past 4 or 5 years.

However I also love crisp, clean, classic lines so Jackie O, Katherine Hepburn for women of the past - and for present day Olivia Palermo. The girl never has a bad day.

What is one thing you always carry in your bag?
Honestly? Kleenex. I was born with a perforated septum (hole inside the nose where nostrils should be separated), love spicy food, inevitably end up eating it when I'm out and need Kleenex at hand. Not such a sexy answer - haha. I also always have my Fresh lipgloss on hand. Their products are my favorite.

What is your current favourite fashion trend?
Good grief this is my time!! I have been carrying around a suede boho pouch since the early 90's, always have a wideleg at hand, never did get rid of that last peasant dress...I love all the wonderful boho pieces that are reappearing with a modern twist. It's like heaven on earth for me right now. I''m also seeing all of the 80's Madonna inspiration reappear with the lace, florals, short skirts and bustiers. Don't look for me in a bustier anytime soon, but the florals and lace? Yes.

What is the current trend you dislike the most?
Neon. Even though I was the queen of it way back when I'm having a tough time embracing it now. It makes my eyes hurt in anything more than small doses.

Why did you start your blog?
I worked with a woman at a big executive search firm who had, for years, been encouraging me to write a book. The craziest things happen to me and there always seems to be some kind of story - but I had no idea how to even begin to go about that. At the same time I would get stopped frequently and asked about things I was wearing, where I got a certain something, etc. For 3 years a friend of mine kept on saying blog, blog, blog so finally I just did it. I had no idea what it even really was, if you want the truth. It just seemed like a fun way to document what was going on for my family in Canada, as well as for friends to keep up with my finds. We're spread all over the west coast and don't get to spend a lot of time together. I'm a bit of a wanderer.

Who takes your photos for you/ How do your take your photos?
My boyfriend takes my photos and it's a labor of love. I would not describe myself as "comfortable in front of the camera". It's gotten easier though - now that he's opening his own restaurant look for me live and coming at you from the kitchen? He's a Chef...this ought to be interesting.

How would you describe your style?
This is tough for me because I'm a mix of Boho-chic with a sprinkling of classic prep. I'm a touch of Farrah Fawcett, a dash of Stevie Nicks, a pinch of Janet Wood and Mrs. Roper meets Olivia Palermo and Lauren Hutton. I love the two styles and sometimes mix which is why you see my outfits run the full gamut. I also think that Keri Russell is flawless - whether she's in jeans and a T or dressed for awards. She is comfortable in her own skin and I relate to that a lot.

What is one thing you are dying to buy this spring?
Okay are you trying to kill me? One thing, ONE thing...I saw Nicole Richie in one of her Winter Kate long fringy bed jackets - a cream and red one. It's been on my mind for about 6 mos and is supposed to be coming out soon. At $495 I'd better quit yapping and get to work. Nicole's another one who mixes boho with present flawlessly. Aside from that I'm all over Tucker for spring and summer.

Are you a shoes or bags kind of girl?
Shoes - although I haven't really seen that many I love recently. Unless you count the Opening Ceremony lace ones that are out of my budget.

What is one thing that you regret buying?
A Juicy Couture soft grey leather jacket with ruffled shoulders - it's military w/a ruffle, cropped and quite pretty. I saw it, loved it, bought it and haven't worn it once. A bloody shame. I now realize I only want to wear it with a little black dress. Such a waste of money.

If you could meet one person from the fashion industry/ a fashion icon who would it be?
This is tough - I absolutely love Isabel Marant and Gaby Basora (Tucker mastermind). I met Gaby briefly last summer, so I guess Isabel for the win. I don't know - I love their designs equally.

What is your favourite vacation destination?
Kauai, HI - it is my sacred place to relax and let everything go away. Every time I come back I'm ready to empty out my closet and live on 10 things. It's a place that helps me to focus on what is important in life and see where I've gone off the path.

What is one totally random fact you want others to know about you?
Well I already told you about my perforated septum...not sure I exactly meant to tell you that. I don't know. I guess it would be interesting to share that sometimes I dream things and they happen. Weird, huh? It's happened to me since I was a little kid - and mostly things pertaining to my own life. Nothing catastrophic or anything like that, thankfully.
