Tura: Currently Travelling - so in between cities;
Occupation: Tura: Traveller, blogger, general ruffian, owner of Tikkitiboo; Lara: Owner and manager of Ahka Vintage
As there are two of us (we are sisters) we often don't agree on the same thing. More than often actually. So we're letting you know a few things about the both of us!
Who is your fashion inspiration?
Lara: Alannah Hill - she's a quirky one that one - and rather random. I like to sit comfortably in the quirky category.
Tura: Audrey Hepburn - I aspire to be as classy as her yet meet often with utter failure. At least I can dream!
What is one thing you always carry in your bag?
Lara: My phone. If I could surgically attach it to my hand in some way I would.
Tura: Tissues. They are immeasurably handy in a variety of situations. Oddly enough I rarely carry my phone. It's often forgotten, lost, out of battery and the likes. That too would be equally handy in a number of situations too. This adds to Lara's tension and frustration of having to deal with an irresponsible little sister that she can never get hold of.
What is your current favourite fashion trend?
Lara: Crochet - definitely crochet.
Tura: I have to agree - it's the hippie in me that finds it most appealing.
What is the current trend you dislike the most?
Lara: Denim shorts that are cut so high that bum cheeks are seen. Often worn by young women who really should cover up. Gives me nightmares.
Tura: Am I the only one who thinks JC Lita's aren't all that amazing? Just putting it out there. Also I'm a big fan of cutoff denim - for the record.
Why did you start your blog?
A natural extension of our stores, Ahka Vintage and Tikkitiboo. We wanted to show our customers and others that we were not just vintage sellers, but actual people, with dreams, hopes and inspirations. To be honest we've come to really love blogging and letting it be an outlet of creativity and style - we are enjoying every second of the amazing roller coaster ride that has come with it!
How would you describe your style?
Lara: Individual, doesn't follow the trend, sometimes gets it wrong, but loves mixing it up.
Tura: I like to think I'm individual - but usually follow general trend, then throw something really strange in there to keep you guessing. Vintage dresses are a staple in my wardrobe (naturally)
What is one thing you are dying to buy this fall?
Lara: A trip to Europe. Really wanting to dive into the op shops there!
Tura: Hair extensions. I regret cutting off my long locks in favour of a Twiggy style pixie cut that has now matured into 80's princess Diana hair.
Are you a shoes or bags kind of girl?
Lara: Bags
Tura: Shoes (phew! when filling this out both of us blurted out these answers at the same time. Now I know why both of these collections have remained safe and untouched with the respective owners!)
What is one thing that you regret buying?
Lara: Nothing. If I don't like it or want it I don't buy it.
Tura: That's sensible. I regret buying a motorbike. You can't wear anything nice on it or it gets trashed.
If you could meet one person from the fashion industry who would it be?
Lara: Alannah Hill - for the same reasons as above.
Tura: Alexander McQueen. He was an incredible artist. I am fascinated by how his thought processes were - how he came to the end result. But that will never happen now.
What is your favourite vacation destination?
Lara: Somewhere in the country, with a wood fire, with my cat and husband
Tura: The beach, with no one else on it, with my husband.
What is one totally random fact you want others to know about you?
Lara: I hate cooking.
Tura: I like turtles.
What is your favourite food?
Lara: Macaroons - they are sweet and delicate and delightful!
Tura: Tapas, a little bit of everything with a little wine!
