An NYC Weekend

Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt from Forty Carrots in Bloomingdales. This was a small. You don't want to know what the large looked like.

Bought myself some rain boots to get ready for Hurricane Irene
Walking along the West River. Saw people setting up sand bags in front of doorways in anticipation of the storm.
Cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery. I may or may not have gotten icing stuck in my hair because I was too impatient and HAD to eat one right away.
A sign in a liquor store window
A multigrain bagel and jalapeno cream cheese. Delicious!

Passed time playing Phase 10 because we couldn't go anywhere

The view from the roof of my sisters Brooklyn apartment building this morning around 10am. I think we slept through the worst of the storm because when we woke up it was barely raining and the wind didn't seem crazy at all. We had stocked up on 9 gallons of water, filled the bathtub and bought flashlights and batteries. Her boyfriend even bought a camping stove. I guess we were pretty lucky that we didn't need to use any of it and I'm sure if we weren't prepared the power would have gone out.

Today is my birthday and my sisters birthday (we are twins) so lets hope that everything is back to normal so we can celebrate!

Glittery Accent Nail + NYC

I decided to have some fun with my nails last week and painted my ring finger with a glitter polish from Urban Outfitters. I love the way it turned out and I plan on doing things like this more often.

I made it to NYC early this morning and after a full day out and about it I came home to my sisters apartment to the news that Hurricane Irene might ruin some of our fun. Apparently the transit system will be shutdown starting saturday afternoon. Thankfully her apartment isn't in an evacuation zone but we will be heading to Target tomorrow morning to stock up on some essentials. The last time I visited she was sick with the H1N1 virus and now a hurricane will keep us stuck at home. I have really awesome timing.

Derek Lam Small Ume Cross Body Bag

This bag is not exactly affordable but I couldn't help but post it anyway. I love the hardware on the front of the bag, it's ram's horns and I think this might be some of the most original hardware I've seen lately. The animal print calf hair flap is trendy without being too over the top and I like that they stuck with black and white to keep it neutral.

In other news I'm heading to NYC tonight. My fear of flying has led me to choose a 7-8 hour bus ride over a 1 hour flight. But I'll arrive anxiety free. If you have any suggestions for things I should do while I'm there leave them in the comments below!

Girls of the Blogosphere: Tura & Lara

Name: Tura & Lara

Tura: Currently Travelling - so in between cities;

Lara: Sydney, Australia
Occupation: Tura: Traveller, blogger, general ruffian, owner of Tikkitiboo; Lara: Owner and manager of Ahka Vintage

As there are two of us (we are sisters) we often don't agree on the same thing. More than often actually. So we're letting you know a few things about the both of us!

Who is your fashion inspiration?
Lara: Alannah Hill - she's a quirky one that one - and rather random. I like to sit comfortably in the quirky category.
Tura: Audrey Hepburn - I aspire to be as classy as her yet meet often with utter failure. At least I can dream!
What is one thing you always carry in your bag?
Lara: My phone. If I could surgically attach it to my hand in some way I would.
Tura: Tissues. They are immeasurably handy in a variety of situations. Oddly enough I rarely carry my phone. It's often forgotten, lost, out of battery and the likes. That too would be equally handy in a number of situations too. This adds to Lara's tension and frustration of having to deal with an irresponsible little sister that she can never get hold of.
What is your current favourite fashion trend?
Lara: Crochet - definitely crochet.
Tura: I have to agree - it's the hippie in me that finds it most appealing.
What is the current trend you dislike the most?
Lara: Denim shorts that are cut so high that bum cheeks are seen. Often worn by young women who really should cover up. Gives me nightmares.
Tura: Am I the only one who thinks JC Lita's aren't all that amazing? Just putting it out there. Also I'm a big fan of cutoff denim - for the record.

Why did you start your blog?
A natural extension of our stores, Ahka Vintage and Tikkitiboo. We wanted to show our customers and others that we were not just vintage sellers, but actual people, with dreams, hopes and inspirations. To be honest we've come to really love blogging and letting it be an outlet of creativity and style - we are enjoying every second of the amazing roller coaster ride that has come with it!
How would you describe your style?
Lara: Individual, doesn't follow the trend, sometimes gets it wrong, but loves mixing it up.
Tura: I like to think I'm individual - but usually follow general trend, then throw something really strange in there to keep you guessing. Vintage dresses are a staple in my wardrobe (naturally)
What is one thing you are dying to buy this fall?
Lara: A trip to Europe. Really wanting to dive into the op shops there!
Tura: Hair extensions. I regret cutting off my long locks in favour of a Twiggy style pixie cut that has now matured into 80's princess Diana hair.
Are you a shoes or bags kind of girl?
Lara: Bags
Tura: Shoes (phew! when filling this out both of us blurted out these answers at the same time. Now I know why both of these collections have remained safe and untouched with the respective owners!)
What is one thing that you regret buying?
Lara: Nothing. If I don't like it or want it I don't buy it.
Tura: That's sensible. I regret buying a motorbike. You can't wear anything nice on it or it gets trashed.

If you could meet one person from the fashion industry who would it be?
Lara: Alannah Hill - for the same reasons as above.
Tura: Alexander McQueen. He was an incredible artist. I am fascinated by how his thought processes were - how he came to the end result. But that will never happen now.
What is your favourite vacation destination?
Lara: Somewhere in the country, with a wood fire, with my cat and husband
Tura: The beach, with no one else on it, with my husband.
What is one totally random fact you want others to know about you?
Lara: I hate cooking.
Tura: I like turtles.
What is your favourite food?

Lara: Macaroons - they are sweet and delicate and delightful!
Tura: Tapas, a little bit of everything with a little wine!

Blue Vanilla's Starfish Cuff

One of the problems with blogging is online browsing which usually leads to wanting something you can't afford. Sometimes I feel like shopping online is much more dangerous than shopping in real life. While reading blogs today I stumbled onto the online shop Blue Vanilla which is owned by the blogger behind Hot Pink Day. Let's just say I fell in love with this starfish cuff. It's kind of amazing and I can imagine wearing it with a million things. (And at $18 it's not really breaking the bank.)

Ellos Dress

I saw this dress on and I fell in love with the floaty feel. They also carry it in black which is probably a better colour for me (this pinky/nude colour will probably make me look like a corpse) but I love it on the model. I also love how it is cinched in at the waist so that you don't get lost in all the fabric. I'd probably add a necklace or some statement earrings to add some interest to an otherwise simple look. I am not really in the market for a new dress at the moment (I'm saving my pennies for my trip to New York next week and for school in September) but I always say "looking never hurt anyone".

You can buy it through for £ 29.00
