Girl of the Blogosphere: Ally

Name: Ralph (or Ally to my friends)

City: Huntington, New York (Long Island)

Occupation: Attorney (Commercial Litigation)

Blog: ShyBiker

Who is your fashion inspiration?

I like clothing designed for normal women, not haute couture available only to the rich. Fashion should be accessible to everyone and my taste resides in the mainstream. I admire Jessica Simpson: she created an attractive line of clothes and accessories which has really caught on. Her company will sell almost a billion dollars worth of apparel this year. A billion! []

What is one thing you always carry in your bag?

A hankerchief. I've always loved them and am never without one. In addition to being functional, you can get ones with pretty designs on them.

What is your current favourite fashion trend? I'm attracted to color-blocking which can startle us with its juxtaposition of bright hues normally not seen together. Moreover, in an interesting inversion of influence, this trend originated among fashion bloggers and is now being picked up by high-end designers like Balenciaga's Nicolas Ghesquiere and Antonio Berardi.

What is the current trend you dislike the most? I'm not attracted to plaids and they seem to be going into overdrive now. Mixing plaids just makes them worse in my eyes.

Why did you start your blog? I was looking for ways to explore and deepen my femininity. I also hoped to make friends. The blog has done both of these things and I'm immensely happy about that.

Who takes your photos for you/ How do your take your photos? I take them myself, using a tripod and a remote shutter-release which is a tiny button that gives me two seconds to pose after pressing it. I wish I had a photographer to assist me, but life hasn't afforded me that luxury. Any volunteers?!

How would you describe your style? Eclectic because I'm in the process of discovering what works for me. I embrace both bohemian and classic looks; while I'm really more of a downtown kind of gal, uptown elegance appeals to me as well. I'm exploring everything, including clothes that are wildly inappropriate for my age. Last month, I wore a tutu!

What is one thing you are dying to buy this fall? I'd really love to get a coat; I've never owned a woman's coat. Something simple and stylish, with perhaps a faux-fur collar. I want it to be an unusually-bright color, like orange or yellow, with large buttons placed in unexpected places.

Are you a shoes or bags kind of girl? Definitely shoes. I love 'em and can't get enough. Even just looking at pretty shoes is fun.

What is one thing that you regret buying? An adorable pair of size-10 shoes. I'm actually a size-13 but, because it's so hard to find shoes that large, I usually suffer in size-12s or even 11s. I fell in love with a pair of silver strappy sandals in a size-10 -- while I could squeeze them onto my foot, standing in them was excruciating; it felt like the straps were going to slice my toes off. I decided right then that size-11 is as small as I will go, no matter how cute the shoe is.

If you could meet one person from the fashion industry/ a fashion icon who would it be? Vera Wang. Her gowns are gorgeous, of course, but I'm equally attracted to her work on costumes for figure-skaters. Her aesthetic is sophisticated and beautiful.

What is your favourite vacation destination? Maine. Its pristine natural beauty is breath-taking. It shows you what the world looked like before industrial pollution. The air is so crisp, the water is so clean, and the forests are heavenly.

What is one totally random fact you want others to know about you? How happy it makes me when people accept me as I am. It means the world to me when people see me as female and relate to me that way.
