The Royal Wedding

I'm sure every blog will be posting about the Royal Wedding today but I just can't resist posting some photos. Ever since I was a kid I have been slightly obsessed with all things royal so I was a little more than excited about this wedding. I got up at 4am so I wouldn't miss a thing.

Probably the most exciting part of the whole thing was the dress. We have been hearing rumours for months about who would design the dress and Kate did not disappoint. The dress was designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and was reminicent of the dress Grace Kelly wore when she married Prince Ranier of Monaco in 1956. I loved it! What did you think?

Essie Turquoise and Caicos Polish

I bought this polish way back in the fall but hadn't used it until this week. It looks a lot lighter in this photo than it is in real life but I think it is a great colour for the spring and summer. My polish collection is slowly being overtaken by blue and green hues. I've definitely got an addiction!

Urban Outfitters Hello Kitty Japan Relief Tote Bag

Some of you may know of my love for Hello Kitty. It all started when I was living in South Korea and it shows no signs of slowing down. If Hello Kitty is on it I want it. Urban Outfitters is selling a Hello Kitty tote to support Japan, 65% of the proceeds from this bag will go to the Japanese Red Cross. Hello Kitty for charity? I hope I can get my hands on one!

Girl of the Blogosphere: Lena

*originally published May 10th, 2010
Name: Lena
City: Monreal, Canada
Occupation: Fashion Buyer

Who is your fashion inspiration?
I don't have anyone in particular that I look up to for inspiration. What inspires me in how I dress is everything from magazines, street fashion which I find right outside my door or pictures I find on the web from different cities, movies I watch, music I listen to, etc. I obtain inspiration from a lot of different places and I then work it to suit my taste and my style.

What is your favourite place to shop?
My favourite retail store has to definitely be H&M. Affordable fashion inspired by the runway to suit the commercial customer. I know that if I step into a store, I am not coming out empty handed.

What is your current favourite fashion trend?
Florals, hands down. I love this print on anything and everything. It's just so feminine and makes me think of summer.

What is the current trend you dislike the most?
Full on denim. It's not that I dislike it, I just find it's the hardest trend to pull off...for me that is.

Why did you start your blog?
A lot of people would tell me how they love my style and they would compliment me on the fact that I manage to look good without spending loads of money. Therefore I wanted to start my blog to inspire girls out there and show them that you don't need to break the bank in order to be stylish...all you need is confidence and imagination.

How would you describe your style?
Never the same...lol. I jump from trend to trend. I can be girly and romantically dressed one day and rocker the next. I wear as I feel.

What is one thing you are dying to buy this spring?
Clogs. I am still on the hunt for a great affordable pair.

What is the most expensive thing you have bought?
My black Gucci wave large hobo. My husband and I were vacationing in Europe, and were at the airport in Italy waiting to catch out flight to Portugal. We walked by a Gucci store and I wanted to go inside to take a look. The prices were much cheaper there as opposed to Montreal as we were saving on the duties etc. Therefore, I purchased this bag as a 30th birthday present to myself. Two years later it still looks like the first day I bought it.

What is the least expensive thing you have bought?
So many things, however, I would have to say the best steal was a red vintage wool blazer by Ralph Lauren which I found at a thrift shop for $12. It fits like a glove!

What is one thing you regret buying?
To be honest with you, I never regret buying anything. If I purchase it there's always a reason why. I have never returned anything in my life.

What is your favourite restaurant?
I'm not saying this because I'm Italian but I love Italian food. Pizza, pasta, gelato...doesn't get any better :) My favourite restaurant at the moment is Bottega. Two locations only, unfortunately. Everything I've tasted there has been delicious. I have nothing bad to say about the place. If you are ever in Montreal you must try it. I assure you, you won't be disappointed.

What is your favourite vacation destination?
I have not been to many places in my life but I'd have to say that Italy has been my favourite. I only visited a few cities in the north and I am dying to go back to see the rest. So much history, such great people and do I even need to go into detail about the food? Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

The Outnet $2 Birthday Sale

Last Thursday I was sitting in a hair salon waiting for my cousin to finish a hair consultation. I was bored so I checked my email (one of the many perks of having an iPhone) and was very excited to see that I had gotten an invitation to The Outnet's $2 Sale in celebration of their 2nd Birthday.

Once I got the invitation I obsessed for HOURS about what to buy which turned out to be pointless because nothing I saw on the site prior to the sale was actually a part of the sale. The invite stated that between 11am-12pm I would receive an email with the link. I started refreshing my email just before 11 and thankfully they only tortured me until 11:13am. Once I was in the sale I was in panic mode. I think the key to a sale like this is to be decisive. Making decisions fast is essential to getting what you want. I didn't make decisions fast so a few things I would have liked to get sold out on me (like a white Celine trench). If I am lucky enough to get an invite next year I will act A LOT faster.

I ended up getting a Donna Karan Crepe Sleeveless Vest.

Here she is. I have to admit that I was a bit underwhelmed with the vest. It fits and is definitely well made with good quality fabric but I am considering selling it. The original retail price was $1765. Who buys a vest for that much money?!

If you have read the blog for a while you know that I have been wanting the Alexander Wang Rocco Duffel. If I can sell it I might put the money towards the bag.

What do you think I should do?

OPI Shatter Polish

I finally got my hands on the OPI Shatter Polish after weeks of being unable to find it. I have no idea why it is sold out every where in Canada but at least I was able to get it. I used a light pink as the base coat and I like the way it turned out. You can see that the cracks look different on every nail but I think that adds to the interest.

Obsessed: Zara Spring Collection

I spent three days last week with my cousin in Toronto. We hadn't seen each other since christmas so we relaxed, caught up and shopped. After browsing the bags at Holt Renfrew, which is Canada's version of Barney's or Saks for all the non-Canadians out there, (always at the top of my To Do list) we headed to Zara.

These Skinny Stretch Jeans $59.99 CAD have been on my mind for a while and I was happy to see that they still had them. But, I am on a strict budget because I'll be going back to school in the fall so left them in the store.

Once I was home I was browsing blogs and Laura from Barbie Laura was wearing the same pants. This photo made me wish I had bought them.

Blazers are a staple item for me and I only own a few so I am always on the look out for more. I quickly fell in love with the Studio Blazer in White $159 CAD

and the Studio Blazer in pink $199 CAD. I couldn't afford the pants so I definitely could not afford either of these blazers.

Next I tried on the Double Breasted Blazer in green $119 CAD. I have a small obsession with green that goes back to my childhood days of reading Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High. I am a twin and I thought that I was more like Elizabeth and because her favourite colour was green so was mine (feel free to laugh). Now I actually like green.

I walked away empty handed but I did purchase 2 items from H&M that I will post about later. I would just like to state that being responsible with my pay cheque really sucks.

* Strangely online prices are higher than in store prices.
