While I was in Wasaga Beach with Vanessa we decided to make some homemade ice cream. She came prepared with an ice cream maker so once we had all the ingredients we got to work. This was my first time making ice cream but it was actually much easier than I thought.
I first heated up some whole milk and a vanilla bean to a near boil and then let it cool and let the vanilla bean infuse into the milk for 15 min. While that was doing it's thing I beat four egg yolks with sugar and vanilla until it was pale.
Then I poured the milk slowly into the egg mixture. Once it was all combined I put the bowl over a boiling pot of water and stirred until it was custard like (this took FOREVER). Once it was custardy I put it in the fridge to cool. After it had cooled completely I popped it into the ice cream maker and let it work its magic.
Et voila we have ice cream!
