Saturday Tea Party

What better way is there to celebrate a birthday than with a grown up tea party! I helped celebrate my friend Vanessa's birthday over the weekend and it was the perfect excuse to wear my new dress (Vanessa forced me to wear it and since it was her birthday she got what she wanted).
The table was set with beautiful vintage tea cups, macarons, scones and Devonshire cream. (I'd never had Devonshire cream before and it was delish!) We basically ate ourselves silly and I may or may not have been in pain by the end of the night (oops).
And then it was cake time :S
I attempted to make I am Baker's heart cake and I think it was fairly successful. If I could go back in time I would make the cake white and only do the heart pink so that it was easier to see. But my cake scooping and carving skills aren't too bad!
What do you think? Can you see the heart?

HRH Sophie, The Countess of Wessex in Niagara

If you have been reading my blog for a while you will know that I am somewhat of a Royalist and have been since I was a child. So when I heard that Prince Edward and Sophie, The Countess of Wessex (the Queen's youngest son and his wife for you weirdos who don't know who they are) were in Canada and would be in the Niagara Region I knew I had to go and check it out. I headed out to the site of one of her engagements and was slightly embarrassed to find that I was the youngest person waiting to see her by at least 30 years. (I'm super cool!) The crowd was also quite small (no more than 15-20 people) so I was pretty sure that I would at the very least get a good photograph of her.
She pulled up to the Wine Centre just after 3:15pm and before greeting the officials who were waiting for her she said she was going to greet the crowd. She walked around her car and worked her way down the line of people waiting to catch a glimpse of her (and we got more than a glimpse). Some people had photographs of previous visits and she stopped to look at them.
Right about here she stopped in front of me and said "Hello, how are you?" I'm pretty sure I answered back "fine, thank you, how are you?" Seriously, what do you say to a member of the Royal Family?! I didn't actually think I'd get the chance to say anything and was slightly unprepared but those few seconds totally made my week.
I watched her wedding to Prince Edward with my mom (who doesn't remember) and sister back in 1999 so lets just say a childhood dream came true. Prior to her arrival a reporter from the local newspaper was asking people in the crowd some questions. She asked two elderly women (in their 80's probably) "who are you here to see?" they replied, "we are here to see Fergie!" Wrong royal ladies, wrong royal (hahaha).
Here is my "OMG I just talked to her"face and "I'm in the same shot as her" face (she's somewhere in the group of people behind me)
And because this is a fashion blog here are some better shots of what she was wearing. The dress and jacket were beautiful. This is also the same look that she wore to the Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service back in June. I'm not sure who designed the dress and jacket but I really loved them!

Weekend Fun

On Saturday night my roommate Vanessa and I headed over to my cousins house to celebrate her birthday. I wore bright red pants and a polka dot blouse and Vanessa bravely carried a four layer cake on the subway.
Sadly the cake started leaning as the night wore on (I'd really like to know why?!) so we cut into it and surprise it was an ombre cake (which was super fun to make). My sister, cousin and I posed for a few photos that just so happened to be in front of a painting done by my mother.
And then it was time to play charades. I'm acting out Fifty Shades of Grey. All it took was "book" and "four words" before someone yelled out "FIFTY SHADES OF GREY" so it definitely called for a high five.
What did you do on Saturday night?

Products I've Used Up: August

I've been making an effort to use products I already have in my stash because A. I'm on a budget and B. hoarding beauty products is kind of silly. I temporarily moved two weeks ago and told myself I would only take the things I used everyday and what I packed as "necessities" was kind of ridiculous. Somehow I managed to make a dent in my stash in August and finished up eight items.
What I finished:
1. Cake It's a Slice Velveteen Hand Creme
2. Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
3. Renew Contact Solution
4. Live Clean Argan Oil Conditioner
5. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreen
6. Love Peace Planet Totally Beachin
7. Garnier Lift Night Cream
8. Vasanti BrightenUp Enzymatic Face Rejuvinator

Do you go through products quickly?

Fashion's Night Out at Holt Renfrew

Thursday was Fashion's Night Out so I decided to head to Holt Renfrew with a few friends. Holt's was hosting a street party in front of the store complete with magenta coloured caramel corn and special edition diet cokes (of course it would be diet). Once the sun had set they projected a short film on the outside of the store to celebrate their 175th Anniversary. To be perfectly honest it left a little (or a lot) to be desired but the pink confetti shooting into the sky was kind of fun.
Did you do anything for FNO?

Rakuga-Cute Photo Editing Ap

I think I may have discovered my favourite photo editing app ever! Thanks to my years in Korea I have a serious love for all things over the top cute and Rakuga-Cute is basically like having a personal Japanese photo booth on your phone. Who doesn't want to add bunny ears, hearts and bows to their photos? I've shared photo booth photos that I took while in Korea here before and now I'm kind of obsessed with playing around with this app.

What do you think? Silly or fun?

{Birthday Stories} The Birthday Dinner

On wednesday my sister and I decided to have dinner with a couple friends and our cousin. We went to a seriously delicious Italian restaurant and relaxed on the patio. I have been doing The Candida Diet these last few weeks for health reasons and fell off the wagon in a big way. (No carbs/starch, no yeast, no sugar, no gluten is just too damn hard to do on your birthday.) After dinner we headed to Vanessa's house for cake and champagne  (white cake with white icing happens to be my all time fav) and we sang Happy Birthday twice (once for me and once for Maria).
All in all it was a really lovely birthday so thanks to everyone who helped me celebrate!

Last First Day

Today was my last first day of school, ever. It is pretty exciting to know that next fall (fingers crossed) I'll be making money and using all the skills I will have learned over the course of this program. My new roommate (I MOVED!!) Vanessa made me a sign and had me stand on the stoop for a little photo shoot before I left yesterday and then I headed off for an exciting morning of Apparel Manufacturing (where I thought about the chocolate sitting on the kitchen table).
Did any of you head back to school yesterday?

Meg Peplum Dress

A month or two ago I blogged about a dress my mom and my sister had bought me as an early birthday gift and I had promised that a post was soon to come. Well, it took four trips to the tailor to get it to fit perfectly so this post is a tiny bit delayed. Now that it is finally in my hands I still love it just as much as the day it was paid for and I can't wait to wear it out. If I don't get a chance to wear it between now and next spring I think I have found my graduation dress.

Longchamp Le Pliage Shopper Bag {Birthday Stories}

Last monday I had dinner with some friends to celebrate my birthday. One of the challenges of being a twin is how to celebrate your birthday and I decided to have dinner with friends on my own rather than have one giant birthday dinner (but don't worry I celebrated with my twin too). One of my friends arrived carrying a Holt Renfrew bag and inside was a rather lovely surprise, a Lonchamp Le Pliage tote! I have been wanting one for months now and I can't wait to start using it as a school bag. Although I'm going to have to take better care of it than a cotton fabric tote (no putting it on the subway floor!). Once I've used it for a few months I might post a proper review but for now I love it! I also headed to Sephora to pick up my birthday present and this year it was a good one. I've always wanted to try the Fresh lip balms but at $26 a tube I am unlikely to purchase anytime soon. Add a 100 point sample (Benefit's Bella Bamba blush) and a tiny tube of mascara and you have a tiny Sephora haul.
